Catching Up On Commission News

Years ago I did a lot of commission work - I've scaled back in recent years to focus on producing more "speculative" work.  This time of year I'm thankful for that, because it used to be a rather crazy season, making sure I completed all of those gift portraits!  I have done a couple of commissions this year, and am currently almost finished another.  The first two were for birthday presents - surprise commissions can be a lot of fun, though they do carry a fair bit of stress, hoping the recipient will be happy with their gift!

The first commission was of Lexi, an eventer-in-training owned by the person who runs the barn where I've kept my mare Gracie this past year.  It was easy to set up a secret photo shoot to get my reference pics, though Lexi didn't make it easy for us!  She's a very pretty mare but modeling is apparently not in her contract!  The result was a 10 x 8 oil on linen.  You can read about Lexi and her human's adventures on Lauren's blog.

The second was a portrait of Portfolio K, a handsome warmblood hunter.  I have done portraits of all this family's horses, so it was an honour to be asked to do the latest member.  This one was done in oil pastel, and it is 17 x 14.

Can't wait to show off the last one!

Lovely soft feel to both the portraits. I love greys as you know so it's my favourite :)
